Steps to reprodce:
1) Open an existing document.
2) Go to the terminal or nautilus and delete the corresponding file.
3) Close OpenOffice.

Notice that it does not even prompt for saving the document.

Framework issue.
Comment 2 thorsten.martens 2005-06-16 13:04:39 UTC
Until the opened file hasn´t been edited in any way by OOo, no saving prompt
will appear. This is really not a bug in OOo when a user deletes manually a
previously opened file in the background.
Comment 3 nagashree 2005-06-16 13:24:08 UTC
On windows it does not allow to do so, it say,
"This file is been used by other program or person.
Close any program that might be using the file and try again"

Looks like a valid issue.

Hi nagashree,

thanks for using and supporting OpenOffice.org...

I agree with tm that this is not an OpenOffice.org issue since "the failure" is
that it is allowed to delete files which are in use...
Windows does something like "file locking"
==> Explorer "knows" that the file is in use.
AFAIK UNIX doesn't do that at all
==> how should Nautilus/the shell know that the file is in use??

The only way out of this problöem seems to be that OOo should have a look by
closing the file if it exists anymore. If the file file doesn't exist, OOo
should ask the user what to do with that file...This would be a workaround ...
But this is not a bug in OOo.

I set this as a ENHANCEMENT and send it to the appropriate person...
