Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 101717
Slide Pane goes blank when slide is edited
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:11:26 UTC
With the Slide Pane open, and the slide thumbnails in view, click into the body of an existing slide to make an edit. The body section of the thumbnail for that slide goes blank. If you click to edit the title of the slide the thumbnail title goes blank. OOo 3.1.0 (310m11 B:9399)
Which OS do you use? Does this happen with every presentation or only with a special one? Please attach a screenshot. Thanks.

I'm using Windows XP SP3, and it happens with every presentation. I can re-produce the issue with a brand new presentation with a single slide in it. I create the slide, put in a title and some bullet points, click out of the slide (so that no part of it is selected), then click back into the body of it, and the slide pane thumb nail goes blank apart from the title. If you click out of the slide and then click back into the title, the title of the slide pane thumb nail goes blank, but the body text remains. Has also been reproduced by another forum Mod (on Fedora, I believe).
I have tried to replicate this behavior on a similar configuration (Win XP SP3), I followed the steps suggested by the reporter, and I got the same results. But I'm not sure if this behavior could be considered a feature, anyway, and not a bug. Maybe the thumbnail is intended to show only "consolidated" slides, I mean slides not currently under update? I verified in Powerpoint 2000 (I have only that version available) if there was a similar behavior. That version of Powerpoint may visualize (in parallel with slides) only the thumbnail related to the visualized slide, but when you update the slide, Powerpoint effectively updates the correspondent thumbnail. Another related behavior in the version of Impress Im looking at (Dev300m48 build 9401) is the following one. If I try to update the body of the slide, the body in the thumbnail becomes blank. If I try to update the title of the slide, the title in the thumbnail becomes blank. But if I then position my cursor on another element of the slide (passing from the title to the body, or vice versa), the thumbnail does not change any more. If the title was blank in the thumbnail, even if the active element under update in the slide is now the body, the thumbnail remains with the blank title and the body visualized, and not refreshed.
A change of behaviour unexpected by the devs isn't a feature, it's a side-effect of something else. The behaviour should ideally go back to what it was, regardless of what Powerpoint does. We're not a PowerPoint clone, after all.
I made a follow-up test on those configurations: 1. PC running Windows XP Professional SP3 and OOo 300m9 (build 9358) 2. PC running Windows XP Professional SP3 and OOo 310m11 (build 9399) In both configurations, I tested two presentations: * a presentation with a single slide containing text and graphical objects * a presentation with 2 slides; the first with a title and a text body, the second with a title and a body containing graphical objects. Configuration #1 I DON'T reproduce the reported issue on any presentation. Clicking on slide's body don't blank the thumbnail. Furthermore, the thumbnail is updated while I type text / place new objects in slide's body. Configuration #2 I DO Reproduce the issue on both presentations: as soon as I click on the body of the selected slide to edit it, the thumbnail goes blank. So it seems that this bug is a regression introduced in version 3.1.0.
I can see a problem with textobjects (not layout texts) disappearing when entering the edit mode. Reassigned.
Setting target to OOo 3.3.
I have seen this some time ago but can not reproduce it anymore. Changing target. @wg: Can you still reproduce this problem?
set target to 3.x since they are not release relevant for 3.4
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
