Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 103464
Impress crashes when the user lock the computer
Last modified: 2010-05-31 13:07:24 UTC
Hi! Impress crashes when the user lock the computer. - first, open an ODP file; - start the Slide Show; - lock the computer with the Windows key + L; - wait some seconds; - put the username and the password and unlock the computer. Impress will be crash and the OpenOffice.org Document Recovery will be started. This problem also occurs when Windows enters in the stand by state after a few minutes. OS: Windows XP OpenOffice.org version: 3.1.0 Thanks!
Sorry, not reproducible. Have you been asked to send a crash report and did you receive an error id? Do you use a notebook?
Hi, wg! The Crash Report is attached. I'm using a notebook, however, the error also occurred in desktops. Thanks!

Confirming with m51 on WinXP - as described. (Crash reporter is not invoking - no stack trace).
Reassigned. @af: is this the same as the "hibernate-crash" we already know about? Please have a look.
this is highly duplicate to the issue that the direct x canvas crashes if - the system goes to hibernate - the system is locked - a direct x screensaver or any other direct x application is started This is happening since the implementor of the direct x canvas didn't take into account that a system resource like a direct x device can be disposed at any time. This needs a rewrite of the direct x canvas....
We need to fix this ASAP. If anyone in OOo management/Hamburg needs further "stimulus" to address this issue please contact me offline.
ohallot, try asking in dev@graphics.openoffice mailing list (you need to subscribe first) if DX canvas can be disable or if their is another workaround. And also vote for this issue.
Hi, Just reading, and wondering what directx has to do ? If I read the default value of the configure (I do that myself) on windows, --disable-directx is the default. So either the Sun version does use directx by default, or maybe we could provide a directx-free version ? If this is important, we'd do something.

Disabling Directx (hardware acceleration) in the Options does indeed solve the issue, no more crash. Now the issue is: Why keep this as default in the packages builds, while it is still open and ackowledged as a flaw?
Raji Padmanabhan, 9/17/09. Was able to successfully replicate the bug on Windows XP in build 3.1 while working on my desktop. Did the following steps to replicate the bug: - Opened a ppt using OOO Impress. - Starting viewing the slideshow - Locked the computer by clicking Ctrl+Alt+Delete - Unlocked the computer, there is no activity and after sometime got a message saying that the impress crashed as shown in the attachment Fixing the error is crucial especially if the impress crashes after coming from a stand-by mode/hibernate mode when the user is in an important meeting/conference.
