Description Regina Henschel 2009-08-26 19:19:21 UTC
(1) Open a spreadsheet document with several sheets.
(2) Goto a middle sheet and switch to page preview.
(3) File > Print
Notice, that "selected sheets" is marked, but it is without operation. The
preview shows all pages from all sheets and the 'page' field in the section
'Thereof Print' is relative to the whole document.

Expected behavior:

(1) The option "selected sheet" is disabled and "all sheets" is preselected.
What would mean, that starting printing from page preview always considers the
whole document.

or

(2) The option "selected sheet" selects that sheet, which is actual shown in the
page preview. That would mean, that printing preview and the 'Page' field in the
section 'Thereof print' is relative to the pages, which are generated by the
selected sheet.

I personally have expected variant (2), because it is a usual workflow to look
at a sheet in the page preview to see whether the layout it OK and correct it if
necessary, and then immediately print that sheet.

Try to set correct addressee.

I think that's a question for nn ? Setting christoph on cc for a UX point of view

@regina: Hi! Do you know if some logic has been changed from 3.1 to 3.2? I tried
a 3.1 on Ubuntu and each time I open the Print Preview, I only get the preview
for the current sheet (even if several are selected).

For the printerpullpages version, I see the behavior you described. Expect one
thing - also the selected cells are not working, although some might be selected
in the sheet before calling Page Preview.

From my point of view, switching from the Page Preview (showing all pages)
should lead to option (1) - printing all pages.

The use case for option (2) does also make sense, but I think it should work
more consistent (but, assuming that Print Preview is unchanged and shows all
pages in each case), then: Selecting one or more sheets and selecting Page
Preview shows all pages. Printing opens the print dialog with the option "all
sheets", but the user is able to change to "selection". This would show the
originally selected sheets. This is a little bit more consistent and supports
the following use case: User selects the desired sheet. He is able to edit the
page layout in the Page Preview. Then, printing the selected pages should print
what he wants.

@christophnoack: I don't know any change from 3.1 to 3.2. For this versions
issue 69576 is still open.

The problem in printerpullpages is, that the value of the radio button group
"Range and Copies" is taken from "Tools > Options > Calc > Printer". When there
"Only Selected Sheets" is marked, then the ratio button "Selected Sheet" is
active. I have tested your remark on "selected cell". You are right, that radio
button is not working too.

The current implementation ignores both settings "Selected sheets" and "selected
cells" when the dialog is called from page preview. Therefore it has to be made
consistent: If the current implementation is desired, then the two radio buttons
must be inactive, when printing from page preview. Or if the selection should be
possible, then the implementation has to be changed.

@Regina: Yep. I had a look at Writer and there, the element "Selection" is
inactive (gray). Here, the given behavior makes sense, because a selection is
ignored when changing to the Print Preview - resulting in all pages being shown.
Selecting File -- Print... proposes to print everything - like shown before. So
we can go for consistency (your initial expected behavior (1)) or consider the
workflow you talked about (your initial expected behavior (2)). Both makes sense
to me.

Print dialog preview shows only selected sheet.
