Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 107004
open XLSX file: hangs and consumes all memory
Last modified: 2013-11-29 19:46:14 UTC
If I open a certain *.xlsx file in Calc (see attachment) , the progress bar moves to some 20% within a few seconds. Thereafter it stops, while the processor load is about 100%. I waited for some 30 minutes, while memory consumption rises steadily until all the physical memory (2GB) is used. Then I cancelled the program. I tried deleting the two sheets with charts from the xlsx file, but it still could not be opened. I observed that some xlsx files can be opened without problem and in reasonable time.

This still occurs with 4.0.
My experience seems to be that of xlsx file that are large. Not sure where the line is drawn for "large". I am testing with a 3MB xlsx file. This same file opens fine with LibreOffice 4.1 just fine.?? This has been a known issue for a while. Some seem to think that this issue started after OOO 3.3. I was waiting for the new AOO 4.0 in hopes that this wouldn't be a problem any more. There is no reason for me to install 4.0 until this issue is resolved. I am running OOO3.4 in a terminal server environment(2008R2), so the installation is a little more challenging. Sorry to say but the question is "Should I switch to LibreOffice? or Wait until AOO4.1? I would like to stay with what I have but.... Unfortunately, we have to be able to open MS Office files. No way around it.
Attachment 66169 [details] opens OK in Excel 2010. Calc Rev. 1518439 not responding. Win 7
