Description Dotan Cohen 2010-06-23 16:20:06 UTC
Currently there is no way to insert formulae inline with other text in Impress.
The user can add a formula as a separate object, but not inline in a textbox.
Please add this ability (as in Writer). Thank you.

Dinesh Rangarajan (telldinunow@gmail.com) Apr 18, 2015:

Not possible to get formula object inline– does not wrap with text.

Tested using:
•	Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
•	Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 - AOO411m6(Build:9775)-Rev.1617669 2014-08-13 09:06:54(Mi, 13 Aug 2014)

Successfully replicated the bug. While entering a line of text, if a formula object is added, the object takes a predetermined default position which is not in line with the typed text. If more than one formula is required, the objects appear overlapped. Move of object does not wrap with text. The font size of the “Formula object” does not match the text entry and could not be re-size for consistency. After selecting the formula object, functionality to adjust ‘Font’ called using menu ‘Format’ -> ‘Character…’ does not work.

Steps for reproducibility:
1.	Create an Empty presentation
2.	Click to add text
3.	Type text “The result of the equation would be:”. Note Font is Arial 32 regular.
4.	From the ‘Insert’ menu choose ‘Object’ sub-menu and click on ‘Formula…”
5.	From the ‘Elements’ toolbar select an element category and click on any one of the formula below
6.	Replace <?> with numbers
7.	Review the position of the inserted formula object (not inline) –bug
8.	Review the font, size and position of the object’s content (inconsistent with text’s font) – bug

Follow-up test:
1.	Using the same slide, click between two words of the typed text
2.	Repeat steps 4 to 6 (as above) to add a second formula object.
3.	Review the position of the second formula object (overlapped hiding the first formula) – bug
4.	Move ‘Formula Objects’ over and next to the text. (does not wrap with text) – bug

"Text with Formula.odp" test file attached.

Follow-Up tests done using Microsoft Power Point 2010.
•	The inserted ‘Equation’ could be moved inline with any text.
•	On selecting the equation, the font and size could be adjusted.
Competition works!

The resulting inconsistency of not able to have formula objects inline, reduces the user capability to have text with formula in their presentation slides. Formulas in presentation are quite a common feature, especially in the academics, hence vital to have this issue fixed for Impress to become the clear choice.
