Description Phil Nichols 2012-09-10 13:13:56 UTC
When printing a sheet.
And a cell or a range of cells are formatted with the property of "Cell protection, Hide when printing".
And one or more of the protected cells are formatted with a non-white background color.

The protected cell background color is printed but the cell contents and borders are not printed.

The expected behavior would be to NOT print the background color.

This behavior has been observed in OpenOffice 3.3.0 and 3.4.1

I was able to replicate the bug running AOO 3.4.1 Build 9593 on a computer running Windows 7 64bit. I printed using a HP Officejet 4500 Wireless, printing wirelessly.

I attempted to replicate the bug multiple ways as shown below:

Test 1
1. open OO Calc
2. enter data into multiple cells
3. Select a single cell, and change the background color
  a. select cell -> right click -> format cells -> background -> select any color -> OK
4. Select same cell, check cell protection
  a. select cell -> right click -> format cells -> cell protection -> check protected box -> OK
5. Select same cell, change cell protection "Hide when printing"
  a. select cell-> right click -> format cells -> cell protection -> check "Hide when printing"
6. Print

Test 1: replicated the bug as suggested.

Test 2: I ran the test again but selecting multiple cells to protect instead of one
1. open OO Calc
2. enter data into multiple cells
3. Select multiple cell, and change the background color
  a. select cells -> right click -> format cells -> background -> select any color -> OK
4. Select same cells, check cell protection
  a. select cells -> right click -> format cells -> cell protection -> check protected box -> OK
5. Select same cells, change cell protection "Hide when printing"
  a. select cells-> right click -> format cells -> cell protection -> check "Hide when printing"
6. Print

for test 2, the background colors of the selected cells can be all one color or different and the bug is still replicated.

Test 3: I ran the same test as test 2 but also selecting a cell with a no-fill (no background color)
1. open OO Calc
2. enter data into multiple cells
3. Select multiple cell, and change the background color
  a. select cells -> right click -> format cells -> background -> select any color -> OK
4. Select same cells, check cell protection
  a. select cells -> right click -> format cells -> cell protection -> check protected box -> OK
5. Select same cells, change cell protection "Hide when printing"
  a. select cells-> right click -> format cells -> cell protection -> check "Hide when printing"
6. Select a sepatate cell with no-fill (no background color) and repeat step 5
7. Print

When I ran test 3, the no-fill cell selected was hidden properly, but the colors of the cells that were selected were still shown, but the data was hidden. Since the expected behavior is for the background color not to print, and it did, the bug was replicated.

The bug also manifests itself when printing to virtual printers such as PDFCreator or Microsoft XPS Document Writer, and not only to physical printers, so there is no need to squirt ink and burn paper for testing.

Same result as Phil on Rev. 1400866, Win 7 64.
