What program do you use to send mails?
Comment 2 Wlada 2014-09-19 07:35:47 UTC
I am not using any e-mail client. I just describe when someone accidentally activate hyperlink who calling e-mail client in case when user do not using any e-mail client. Is there chance to prevent that situation in better way than what we have now?

I tried to replicate your bug. At first I thought the issue was with the hyperlink created for the e-mail address. However, I come to realize that the issue may be connected to the lack of a mail client. Just as follow-up, did you install a mail client and tried the same steps again? If so, does it crash again?
The reason I was not able to replicate is that I did not delete mine mail clients; therefore, whoever works on this bug should mainly focus on the behavior for the lack of mail client.

>issue may be connected to the lack of a mail client

Yes, issue is connected to the lack of a mail client. Solution is: upgrade the code for that situation, when we have not instal any e-mail client.

Hi Wlnda,

I unfortunately can't reproduce the issue. My configurations are:
- Windows 7 SP1 on 64-bit
- Open Office 4.1.1 (AOO411m6 Build 9775, 1617669)
- I don't have any email client

I have done the same steps as you from 1 to 4. At step 5, when I press Ok on the Msg Box, it doesn't appear again. Moreover, I can continue writing in the document and save it (both .odt or .doc)

Wlanda, can you still reproduce it?

Thanks,
Adina

I wasn't able to reproduce this bug following steps 1 -5. I do have a default mail client installed on my machine. I also tried a few different scenarios listed below and was not able to create this issue. Was the issue fixed with a newer version of the software? Did you install a mail client and run this scenario again?

Windows 7 SP1 64-bit OpenOffice 4.1.2

Prior to using AOO 4.1.1, were you able to perform these steps without any issues? Have you tried using a different word processing system to see if the issue appears?

I was able to replicate this bug on AOO 4.1.2 on Windows 7 following the same steps listed in the original comment. I have no email client set up. I have elaborated on Wlada's steps to include what I saw at each part of the process.

1. Ctrl click the email address the page freezes and becomes unresponsive.
2. Another click anywhere else on the screen causes the Writer window to close, but leaves the Msg Box open.
3. Clicking ok on the message box does nothing. I am unable to drag the Msg Box around and it appears completely unresponsive.
4. Click the Writer program from the bottom bar to attempt to reopen the document, this is unresponsive.
5. Right click the icon to attempt to press 'Close Program'. This will reopen the Writer window which is still unresponsive.
6. Continuous attempt to close the program are unresponsive until the program displays a 'Not Responding' error and closes the program.

I have repeated the steps 5 times and got the same results described above each time. In some cases, the program was unresponsive for a few minutes before the 'Not Responding' dialogue was opened. During this time, I could open up the Start Menu, but icons on my desktop were unresponsive as well. On each of these attempts the documents has to go through the recovery process to be reopened.

I attempted to perform the steps from a document that was saved, and a document that had not been saved and I got the same results.

Fixing this bug would greatly benefit users who do not have an email client set up because it causes the program to be unresponsive for an extended period of time.

Hello Wlada,
I am using windows 7, 4.1.1 without any default mail client and was able to replicate similar bug.
additional comments:
1.After clicking on the on hyperlink, the application became unresponsive with the message box showing like described in your comment.
2.The state of the message box was unresponsive as well, and after trying to close the program several times, the program finally exited.
Solving this issue will help save customer's time who do not have default email client set up, and stop the program from crashing.

This appears to have enough independent confirmation to be set as confirmed for Windows. Would be helpful if it could be checked on another OS as well. Need a developer to look at the relevant code.
