Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15635
request for possibility to easier change font width
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:02 UTC
(hope i'm right here with this request; my apologies if i'm misled...) some hundred years ago (...), i used to work with a dtp-software on an amiga 500 (can't remember the name, unfortunately...). it had a very nice feature to alter the font width ("laufweite" in ooo's german translation): when you marked the text you wish to change, you simply could use the cursor-keys (left and right) to make the particular font wider or narrower, that is, alter the space between letters. this was highly useful for working on layout, and open office would benefit from it as well, i think, since i haven't found an option for "absolute justify" yet ("justify" now just fills the spaces between words, but doesn't stretch the words itself until they fit to the given width, right?). maybe a combination of [alt]+[cursor-right/left] could be used to change font width by +-0.1?
SBA: Reassigned to Bettina from the User Experience team for consideration.
OOo 1.1.0 does have a feature like this: > Format > Character > Position > Spacing. Will close as invalid. If you find your problem hasn't been solved please reopen.

I had a personal talk with the reporter last week. the problem is that you need several test to find out the right font width. The reporter wish to use the funktion via keyboard and can see the result directly. He suggests to use "a combination of [alt]+[cursor-right/left] could be used to change font width by +-0.1" Can this be an option?
