Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17493
Line break in Input field when saving til .doc not recognized by Word
Last modified: 2003-12-22 18:44:24 UTC
A forced line break in the text entered in an input (fillin) field i OOo apparently results in the code $0A when the document is saved in Word 97/... format. This is correctly read as a line break by OOo, but not by Word (neither 97 not XP). As far as I can see there will be an $0B in a 'native' fill-in field in Word (but apparently $0D in normal text). Of course $0B is not seen as a forced line break by OOo either. This means that single input fields cannot reliably be used in for instance address blocks in letters, one has to use 4 or 5 input fields which is irritating and clumsy.
Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test it. (Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily) Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is small, but we still able to see the problem.

The problem is known (see issue 15799). It will be solved for OO 2.0 (checked with internal build). *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 15799 ***

The essence of this problem is that OpenOffice and Word use different codes for the linebreak in an input field. When I mailed 17493 (without recognizing 15799 as the same problem)I did it on the basis of version 1.0, which showed the line break correctly in OpenOffice, but on one line in Word like this: dette hartvunget linjeskift efter "har" (the square is the way I see the line break). Now in 1.1.0 the situation is the diametrally opposite: OpenOffice cannot show the line break in the .doc-file it created itself. I look forward to version 2.0 to see this problem solved.
