Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17851
OOo 1.1 rc2 crashes when opens a particular msword doc
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:42:08 UTC
I have a document written (i suppose) in an old version of MS Word, probably 6.0, which can be open ad edited with OOo 1.0.3.1. When I try to open it with OOo 1.1 RC2 the program crashes. I've found some attempts with differents machines with OO installed with the same result. If you are interested in it, I'm glad to send you this document.
Created attachment 8243 [details] file DOC which crashes OOo1.1rc2 and can be open perfectly wiht OOo1.0.3.1
Cannot confirm with either OOo 1.0.3.1 or OOo 1.1rc2 in WinXPPro Can you provide crash log? Tam
When you delete the /opt/OpenOffice, I assume you have a user installation as well ("-net" and user installs, both). I normally rename my old directory until I'm sure about the new installation and either remove .sversionrc (hidden file in the user home directory) or run ./setup from /opt/OpenOffice first and choose remove (it keeps config files) before renaming it. Try this procedure: Run ./setup as user from /opt/OpenOffice/program Select "Remove" Run ./setup -net as root from /opt/OpenOffice/program Select "Remove" rm -r /opt/OpenOffice (as root) As user, cd <HomeDirectory> ls (to see if you have the OpenOffice sub-directory) mv <OpenOffice directory> <OpenOffice directory.old> rm .sversionrc Now everything's gone. If you have removed some other stuff or it's incomplete, do everything and ignore any error messages (such as it can't find the file) -- just go to the next step. Make absolutely sure there is no .sversionrc on your home directory. Install the new one and see if you encounter anymore error messages. I suspect you will not. The culprit may be how you remove OOo. As a safety feature, use the "Remove" feature (first as user then as root) and make sure that .sversionrc is empty (no reference to the removed version). You can normally safely overwrite the old directories after using "Remove".
JA->MRU: reassigned to you
Yes, I could reproduce the crash with OO 1.1 RC. But this will be fixed in OO 1.1 final (perhaps also in RC4, but can't tell for sure).
fix verified.
Fixed in RC4.
