Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17955
Problems with complex tables
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
I made a complex table, I saved the document and I reopened. The table appeared messed up. Nothing to do with it. Also it is too hard to work with tables in the way that manual adjusting of cells borders is difficult. Another issue is that oo.org does not allow to write 90 degrees text in tables or should I say it allow but the text is not visible in its entirety.
Hi, can I please see the sample document with the complex table? It is necessary in order to attempt to reproduce the bug. You can attach the document from the bug form. Next thing, it is advisable to not report several issues in one form. The problems you have with table resizing the table and 90 degree text have to be reported as seperate issues in order to resolve them effectively. Waiting for the document attachement, thank you.
Created attachment 8327 [details] it should look like this
Created attachment 8328 [details] but it looks like page 16 in this doc (this is after I saved the file)
The problem with adjusting the table occured when I tried to fix that anomalies you'll see in the doc.
Yeah, I tried playing around and creating the table that you want, and I found like a dozen of problems with tables that I will have to file as bugs. Yours is also an issue, except now I'm thinking how to report this so that developers would have an easier time seeing the problem and looking for solutions. Now about that 90 degree text: it is possible to do that in Format->Character under Tab Position you will find 90 degree setting.
Please have a look at the reporter's attached files and try creating a table like that. It is very hard to do, and gets out of hand fast. The problem with this issue is that it is hard to define a problem. I'm confirming this to attract some attention to table creation.
Reassigned to MRU
MRU->AMA: Please also have an eye on this, when planning new table concept. The handling of adjusting cell sizes with the mouse must also be improved.
You shouldn't release 1.1 until you repair this bug.
Created attachment 8819 [details] Two solutions for a complex table
Okay, it's not easy to create such complex table. Please have a look at my attachment. I found two different solutions, the first by creating a table and split the cells, the second is a simple table structure where I deleted only the border of cells without really merging them. We've to make our table manipulation more intuitive, so far, so good. But what's the problem which should be fixed for OOo1.1? When I'm right you saved a complex table and when you reopened the file the table was damaged? Is this reproducable?
.
Some improvement is planned even it will not be too easy to create such complex tables.
SBA: According to the OpenOffice.org roadmap (see http://tools.openoffice.org/releases) this issue was retargeted to "OOo Later".
The problem of merging cells in a row of varying cell heights / adjusting individual row heights, is covered by Issue 4032. Regards, Andrew. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 4032 ***
