Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 20594
MS-Export: Problem with saving rotated tables.
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
Say you have a table, and in one cell, you want to have your text written 90° rotated. Works fine as long as you save your file as an OO text document or pdf, but does not work if you want to save it as a MS word 97/2000/XP (text goes back to normal there).
I can Reproduce the problem on OpenOffice 1.1 (default Install, US), Win XP Pro Sp1. (And MS Office XP Sp2). It is real problem It is not yet supported by OOo yet, including opening the rotated text which created by MS Office
set target to OOo Later reassigned to mru
set target to OOo2.0
MRU->AMA: rotated text in tables is not compatible to MS's one. In WW, it is a table, respective a section attribute, thus interoperability is not possible. In deed, this is a favorite issue, since SO/OO supports WW import...
For the OOo 2.0 we are planning a cell attribute "text direction". But this will allow only three directions which we've for pages and for frames as well: "horizontal left-to-right", "horizontal right-to-left" and "vertical right-to-left". This is covered by our issue 20350. The support of 90° and 270° rotated text is not planned yet. So one part of this bug is duplicate to issue 20350 the other part should be solved in a later version.
This is duplicate to 20350. If you use character format "rotated text", you won't be able to store this, because Ms Word format does not support it. In OO Writer, rotated text as table property will be implemented for interoperability. That's, what Word supports and Writer will do after solving issue 20350. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 20350 ***
