Description kelvine 2004-04-02 08:32:20 UTC
Hi,

I have noticed this for some time.

When I perform a spellcheck in Html Editor and correct the word, not all of
the squiggly red line is removed. Part of it remains as screen rubbish.

Thanks

Kelvin

Hi there Kelvin,

It's not doing the same for me, also using 1.1.1 on WinXP. Could you confirm
whether this happens all the time please, or only under certain situations?
Additionally, if you're able to try recreating the same problem on another
computer then so much the better!

In any case, if you could describe step by step how to recreate the problem
(e.g. are you correcting the word by right-clicking on it and selecting an
alternative, or some other way?) then we could have a closer look at this.

Thanks!
Stuart.

Hi,

I can reproduce this problem on two different machines. Both machines have
screen resolution set to 1024x768.

Further investigation shows the problem is when the zoom is 100%.

When I first went to reproduce this problem now on either machine I could not.
I knew the problem existed as I have seen it many times. (I do a lot of
development using Html Editor as it is what I use for my websites.) I
persisted and eventually found, as best I can tell, it is at the zoom of 100%
where the issue occurs.

Open the attached document using Html Editor
Change the zoom to 100%
Right click on the incorrect word "businesss"
Select "business"

You will know even before doing this if it is going to work or not. The black
highlight box does not cover all the required area.

I have attached another screen capture which shows this more clearly. You will
need to zoom in quite a bit to see the detail.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Kelvin

Aha! Thanks for the extra info -- now I've managed to reproduce this on my work
computer in Win2k, using both OOo 1.1.1 and 680_m34. However, the issue only
seems to occur when I'm using Arial 12 point, in the HTML editor, and at 100%
zoom, as you say. Can you confirm for me whether that's also the case with you
(e.g. it doesn't occur with Garamond or Times New Roman etc), please Kelvin,
before I mark the issue as new?

Also, as this issue doesn't break OOo in any way (though isn't ideal), I wonder
whether you might agree to it being marked as P4 rather than P3?

Stuart.

Hi,

Well done.

I have been able to reproduce this with any other font (not as thought I would
stray to far from the standard fonts in Html Editor) and not at other point
sizes either.

Interestingly one test I did was I added the enlarge and reduce font buttons.

Increasing the font 10-12-14 did not produce the effect, but reducing the font
14-12-10 did.

I also tried a number of zoom factors. There could always be a hidden
combination, but so far I have only found Arial, 12 point at 100% as you say.

Happy for the issue to be P4. Screen garbage to me drops the perceived quality
of a product. The more we can get rid of screen garbage the better. It is
however not a major issue.

Thanks for your time

Kelvin

Thanks for the extra info, Kelvin. Marking this issue as 'new' -- we should hear
from the relevant developer when they've had a chance to take a look!

Stuart.

Hi,

I just tested this on both OO1.1.2 and m51 and the problem still exists.

I downloaded the document that is in this issue and then did the following in
each version.

Open the attached document using Html Editor
Change the zoom to 100%
Right click on the incorrect word "businesss"
Select "business"

Both had the bottom of the red squiggly line left.

I'll reopen

Thanks

Kelvin

Reproduced in OOo1.1.2, WinXP.
Comment 17 lohmaier 2004-09-02 16:16:11 UTC
can reproduce with OOo 1.9m51 on linux.
As reporter wrote, this depends on zoom-level.
A forced refresh of the screen (<ctrl>+<alt>+r) removes the remnants of the line.
Comment 18 jack.warchold 2004-09-02 16:23:17 UTC
ok set version to m51.
i'am still not able to reproduce this in any other version then OOo1.
1.1 but with that lot of confirmations here in the comunity i accept
this as still present.
i will look for an developer responsible for this

need a second look in spellchecker after integration of cws OS19
Comment 20 sjb90 2004-10-17 17:31:48 UTC
cws OS19 has now been integrated into the development build, but this issue is
still present for Arial, 12pt, 100% zoom, as per kelvine's original report.
Currently this should be tested using words other than "bussiness" however,
owing to additional difficulties posed by new issue 35673 -- alternative
incorrectly spelt words such as "kitshen" should be used to test this defect.
Comment 21 stefan.baltzer 2005-01-07 16:36:40 UTC
SBA->FME: I could reproduce this in 680m70 on Windows2000 with 100% Zoom and
Arial font 12pt. Looks like repaint problems of the context menu (the leftovers
are identical with the place the context menus top pixel line has been.
