Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 27687
cannot assign a name to drawing objects
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
Hi *, in order to have the drawing elements displayed in the navigator, it is necessary that a name is assigned to these objects (see also issue 7733). Although there is a new category "Draw objects" (Zeichenobjekte) in the navigator, it cannot be used without using a cumbersome workaround. You can only name grouped drawind objects, not single objects alone. The option doesn't show up in the (context)menu and even assigning the function "name object" (Objekt benennen) doesn't work for single objects. When you group the object with another element, you can name it and the name will show up in the navigator. I will attach a sample document showing a grouped and a ungrouped element. Try to name the single-one (or: make it appear in the navigator) -> you can't. In Draw however, it is possible to name single drawing objects. ciao Christian

Hi cloph, thanks for using and supporting OpenOffice.org... reassigned to liz... mci -> liz: Hi Liz, please have a look at this: Should single objects (drawings) be able to get a name (in this case the function doesn't work for single objects)or should the String "Name Object" be "Name Group"?? I just don't know which of the two possibilities is the right one... thanks
Liz->SBA: I think the menu command "Name Object" is missing from the context menu in Writer. There is no reason why it should only be on the context menu for a grouped object and not a simple object. Simple inserted objects in Calc and Draw have the menu command "Name Object". Is this a bug or a feature? Which target? BTW this is not my area, since the string should not be renamed.
I can reproduce on win xp Ooo 1.1.1. "Name Object" is missing from the context menu in Writer for ungruped one

confirmed on OOo 1.1.2 rc and 680_m38 set target OOo2.0
The naming of simple drawing objects was not intended. So it's not a defect but and enhancement. And it will not be changed for OOo 2.0.
OK for me, but I'd like to emphasis that you can name single drawing objects in draw and impress (so OOo behaves inconsistent here)

duplicate. Again a feature as fixed "by accident", bypassing the already filed ones. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 51726 ***
