Description utomo99 2004-04-15 09:36:27 UTC
Now we have Draw, but it cannot import from most used Draw software available
in market (Corel Draw), we need to add this capability, to be able to import
or maybe including export to Corel Draw.
Thanks

I am working at a research group in a university. We frequently use CorelDraw to
prepare posters for conferences and figures for scientific publications. During
the past years we have accumulated a large amount of drawings which are often
reused for new figures/posters. For migrating from CorelDraw to OOo Draw it is
_essential_ that these old drawings can be imported into Draw not only as an
unmodifyable object (this can already be achieved using a WMF/EMF intermediate
conversion step) but as a full featured drawing that can be modified as if it
was created in OOo. The import as WMF/EMF or via OLE object is useless for us,
as it does not allow editing of the drawing (in case of OLE you still need
CorelDraw).

A CorelDraw export filter would be very helpful as well but is not as important
as the import filter.

This bug still exists in the 2.0 Beta nightly builds (1.9.104).

It currently appears impossible to successfully bring vector images into OOo
(EPS and WMF failed miserably on me).This bug still exists in the 2.0 Beta
nightly builds (1.9.104).

There are 55 votes for this issue and I think than ability of importing
CorelDraw formats is really needed.

This feature was not improved in 2.4 and 3.0 Beta.

I agree, very useful feature.
We hope for next releases it will be done.

In my particular case, I have Corel Draw! v.9 .cdr & .cmx files which I'd like
to modify and update using OOo-Draw; and exporting them to WMF doesn't let me
change them in an easy way.

Can we use the Uniconvertor?

With the recent developments in supporting anti-aliasing, OOo Draw can be a real
competitor to the CorelDraw series, as we have both high quality vector- and
raster-graphics facilities readily available.

According to the Wikipedia, the .CDR file format is patented to some degree.
This can be an obstacle in implementing certain features, mostly on the export
side - for proper information, more research is needed. From the viewpoint of
raising ODF awareness and standardization, the export filter for .CDR can have
even a negative effect. Contrary, an import filter could open migration to
OpenOffice.org for many.

Yes, we should set a milestone and get it going because it is very difficult to
find a good and free converter that imports cmx and retains its vectors' property.
Comment 15 credmann 2010-05-27 14:45:54 UTC
uniconvertor is a Python piece of software what imports many formats:

    * CorelDRAW ver.7-X3,X4 (CDR/CDT/CCX/CDRX/CMX)
    * Adobe Illustrator up to 9 ver. (AI postscript based)
    * Postscript (PS)
    * Encapsulated Postscript (EPS)
    * Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM)
    * Windows Metafile (WMF)
    * XFIG
    * Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
    * Skencil/Sketch/sK1 (SK and SK1)
    * Acorn Draw (AFF)
