Description osantanabr 2004-04-19 18:07:00 UTC
I think this is a great modification, but this is very interesting to do.

Transforming "Custom Quotes" in a "Style Attribute" we can do things like:

This is a ``normal'' text that show a computer program listing:

# This is a "Program Listing" Style
# Here we can use "double-quotes"

Since the replacement is language-dependent, you can simply create a style that
has the language set to "none" and the quotes won't be replaced.
Since something like a language is not that useful for program listings (the
spell-checker would find many "errors") this seems to be a suitable solution.

Alternatively, you can toggle on/of Format|AutoFormat -> While typing. You can
assign a keyboard-shortcut or add a button to the toolbar to toggle this.

Since there are already a couple of solutions to this problem, I lower the prio.
But I'm confirming this one since there may be situations (that I cannot think
of right now) where this RFE may be useful.

You (reporter as well as bh :-) may close this as worksforme If you cannot make
up a scenario where an additional style property would be required.

I would also like to see this feature. As a novelist, I have to work within
guidelines that typically require that this feature be disabled in manuscripts I
submit to publishers. However, in letters (etc) I would still prefer the
feature be enabled. Remembering to switch between the two settings when
changing the type of work is troublesome, and having an automated way of doing
it would be useful.

The suggested workaround (setting language to 'none') is not suitable for my
case, as it would disable spellchecking functionality, which is desirable for me.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
