Description Unknown 2002-03-29 19:28:50 UTC
Program seems to assume A4 paper size and metric measures. This is perplexing
to dumb US users like me. No biggie to change measurement unit in the options
dialog, though it might make more sense to put this dialog under
OpenOffice.org->General rather than under Text Document->General. Took a long
time to stumble across the means to permanently change to US Letter by making a
new default template, though.

Since the per-user install asks for country, I kept hoping that might clue the
install program to set both Paper=US Letter and Measurement Unit=inches as
defaults throughout. Lacking such automatic adjustment, this will almost
certainly become a common source of frustration and should be addressed
prominently in documentation.

Hi Falko.
something for the setup proposals.
Comment 2 Unknown 2002-11-11 12:54:42 UTC
Does the previous comment imply that this suggestion should show up as
a request for the "Installation" project at
installation.openoffice.org?

This seems like obvious functionality worth having, but as of yet
there's not even any acknowledgement of it. How can I help? Do I
need to become familiar with the installation process?

Thanks!

Add a general switch that automatically adjusts default papersize
(letter vs. DinA4) in all application based on their locale.
Example: Setting English (US) to letter and Imperial, setting English
(UK) to DinA4 and Imperial, setting English (AUS) to DinA4(?) and metric.

See also 3729, 8004, 3856 also duplicates, I think. This problem persists in
680m38 so I think they should all still be active duplicates.

I can't figure out how to attach the promised document to 8004, so please see
my comment there and I will try here. As I said in 8004, I have the reverse
problem - I work in the UK where A4 is standard, and MS imports sometimes ask
for letter size paper.

I'm so tired I can't figure out how to attach my document. I may have to file
a new issue :(

please follow on these issues instead

1) easier setting + default values
issue 39733 : Support default value for measurement units/paper size settings

2) automatic setting
issue 42730 : Installation needs to auto-config OOo appropriately for an
environment's current locale

thank you.
