Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 4076
Insert|Graphics|From fileMenu Option Enabled even when Graphic selected
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
Insert a graphic (e.g. a GIF) into a Writer Document. Click on the graphic to select it. Choose menu Insert|Graphics|From File... This shouldn't be possible if a graphic is selected, should it? The Graphics options dialog appears. This bug is also in 5.2
Mike, I'm going to tag this as an enhancement request. Thank you for using and supporting OOo. Duplicated on Win NT 4.0 SP6a, OOo 1.0.1.
Joost->Matthias: If you use /Insert/Graphics/From file... on a selected graphic then the /Format/Graphic... dialog is opened as this is the only context of an inserted graphic. We might either change this behaviour to open the file dialog and exchange the selected graphic or disabling the menu item /Insert/Graphics/From file... if a graphic is selected. Reassigned as RFE to you

I created a duplicate issue for this one (Issue 58783). I agree with mmp that the desired effect should be to replace an image. I think this is more consistent with the 'Instert' behaviour in general. For comparison: if you select some text, and then choose, say, insert Date, the selected text will be replaced with the date. So I believe an image should behave in the same way. If the replacement of the image was not the user's intended behavior, he can use undo to revert the replacement, just as with a text replacement.
duplicate. reason for not keeping this one: issue 12891 is shorter, has a short description (with expected result in the very first description) and last but not least it already has a vote... *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 12891 ***
closing duplicate.
