Description samphan 2005-02-14 13:43:55 UTC
Pladao and OpenOfficeTLE are independently hacked and localized OOo (1.1.x). The
installation of both also installed some Thai fonts.

Pladao (LGPL/SISSL) :-
OOAnnop, OONaksit, OORatchada, OOSawasdee, OOThanakrit, OOThaiSymbol
OpenOfficeTLE (GPL):-
	Norasi, Garuda, Loma

It will be very useful for Thai users if these fonts are included in OOo or
available in Thai language pack. So they can use OOo out-of-the-box with the
same Thai fonts on all platforms. And thus no need for local versions of OOo.

See also issue 10043 which currently mentioned that OOo language packs can not
contain fonts. OOo language pack should be able to contain fonts so that Thai
language packs can installed all the above fonts.

Comment 13 Martin Hollmichel 2005-04-01 15:49:11 UTC
mh->arthit: archive of Garuda, Kinnari, Lome, Norasi don't contain any hint to a
license, where do these archives come from ? Who is copyright holder ?
Comment 14 arthit 2005-04-01 21:14:14 UTC
For Garuda, Kinnari, Norasi, Loma fonts uploaded,
they're all from

http://www.links.nectec.or.th/download.php

The copyright holder is National Electronics and Computer Technology Center
(NECTEC).
But the license for each of them is unclear.

Here're the message from the webpage
"Following software packages and data files are the achievements of RD-I
research programs. All are the property of NECTEC and are distributed under each
package license, mainly for personal and research use.

BECAUSE THE SOFTWARE PACKAGES AND DATA FILES ARE DISTRIBUTED FREE OF CHARGE,
THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR THEM. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE
OF THE PROGRAM IS WITH YOU. SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE, YOU ASSUME THE
COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR CORRECTION."

Anyway, it seems like Garuda, Kinnari, Norasi, and Loma fonts uploaded are all
the old version.
I will try to looking for a new version, which may also has copyright/license
information explicitly in the font.

(The most update ones (with few additional fonts, including monospace fonts) are
here,

http://linux.thai.net/plone/TLWG/thaifonts_scalable/

but they all in source format, I can't make it on my Windows machine.
May be OOo team may like to have a look.).

----

arthit->samphan: do you know anything about font license?
Comment 15 jjc 2005-04-01 23:17:22 UTC
I'll check with NECTEC.

I think they might be GPL. If so, would that be a problem for bundling with OOo?
Comment 16 Martin Hollmichel 2005-05-22 07:33:37 UTC
set target to OOo Later.
Comment 17 jjc 2005-09-18 03:19:08 UTC
ft tells me that (at least as of 2.0) it is definitely possible for language
packs to contain fonts, and support for fonts is part of the language pack spec.
Comment 18 samphan 2008-09-07 13:30:07 UTC
No need for this now. These fonts are available in many places. And OOo may not
be the right place to distribute them.
