Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 47624
Exported RTL tables not read by Word 2000
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:22:26 UTC
When I save the attached OOo document with an RTL table to Word 97/2000/XP doc format, and open it in Word 2000, the table borders are gone, and the text in all the table cells appears as a single line of text, with white boxes interspersed (presumably representing the table border characters). If in OOo, I change the table direction to LTR, then export, Word 2000 reads it ok. Interestingly, if I change the direction back to RTL *in Word*, I get the garbage I described earlier. This problem only exists in Word 2000. When I read the file in Word 2002, the table looks fine. The so called "...white boxes interspersed..." are Word's non-printing characters. MRU->FLR: when exporting attached document to WW8 format and reloading, the left table border is gone.
Considering the effort, the priority, the risk and our resource planning I've to retarget this issue to OOo Later.
ayaniger -> flr: I tried opening the problem document in Word 97 (Hebrew edition), and it was imported correctly. It seems to be only in Word 2000. How might on go about finding the quirk in that version of Word which causes the problem?
