Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 48554
Impress numbering confused by introductory text
Last modified: 2008-05-12 04:06:24 UTC
Do the following: Create a Presentation document. Write the following: Introductory text Bullet item one Bullet item two Bullet item three Select the bullet items, choose Format->Numbering/Bullets…, choose a numbered style. The list is now numbered - starting from 2. One has to set the starting number to 0 to get it to start from 1. This works as intended in Writer, so the problem is specific to Impress. I am running NeoOffice/J 1.1 Release Candidate, patch 3 under OS X 10.3.9, and have also reproduced the problem under OpenOffice.org 1.1.2.
Reassigned.
I can#t reproduce the bug. Please send me a step by step description to reproduce the bug.
Created attachment 26022 [details] File demonstrating the problem
Well, I'm not sure what additional detail to give than what I wrote above, but I attached a file which should show the problem, it has six clauses that are numbered starting from 2. I created the file as follows, giving the menu titles in the Swedish form I get them: Select Arkiv->Nytt->Presentation. Click on Text icon in left toolbar. Drag out text area. Start typing text with returns between paragraphs. Drag mouse to select all paragraphs except the first one. Select Format->Numrering/punktuppställning… Choose tab Numreringstyp if not on top by default. Choose any of the numbering alternatives. The selected paragraphs will now be a numbered list, starting from 2, II, B, or whatever you chose. Should you select all paragraphs except the first *two* ones, you will instead get numbering from 3, III, C, and so on for the number of non-selected paragraphs. You will get the same effect if you choose Punktuppställningstecken (the right-most icon) from the mid-upper toolbar.
This is not a bug but the behaviour should be changed. The behaviour in the writer is different to this behaviour. Therefore the behaviour is inconsistent.
This bug still exists in OpenOffice 2.0.4. OpenOffice Impress appears to have strangely implemented numbering by using line numbers within the given text box. It neglects natural numbering starting at 1, and ignores your instruction to start numbering at <n> using the dialog box at "Bullets and Numbering"/Customize. Found on Linux i386, Debian version 2.0.4.dfsg.2-7.
