Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 50668
OO Writer Beta 2.0 . High CPU when open simple MS-Word document
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:42:16 UTC
Hello, Running Oo 1.9 Beta, Windows XP Pro SP2 on 800Mhz / 512 MByte machine I downloaded a simple word document, 386k, that contains a few tables - I think it contains a few graphics. My virus checker says it is clean. When I try to open the document in OO Writer, the CPU goes to 100% and writer takes whatever is not used by other processes. This 100% CPU usage (c.97% Writer) persists for many minutes but only for this one file. I have a number of other MS-Word documents (some much larger) that OO Writer has no problems opening. The maximum time I left Writer in this state was 5 minutes before I gave up and cancelled Writer using TaskMgr - so must be some kind of loop that taskmgr says is happening in Writer . I can open the document in WordPad - the content is a few Word tables - the text format is a bit "messy" in that there seem to be some "non-display" characters in the text, rendered as squares. When I open the document in WordPad a pop-up dialog titled "Microsoft Word 97 conversion" says "Unable to load graphics conversion filter. Continue with document conversion Yes or No?" So at a guess OO Writer is having a problem reading a Word 97 document. Thanks Clive
Created attachment 27134 [details] MS-Word file that causes Writer to hang at 100% CPU
confirming on linux -> OS to all. As described: in m107 the CPU usage is 100% even after a couple of hours the documents still is not loaded. In OOo 1.1.4 the document opens fine -> regression keyword.
MRU->FME: please have a look where this loop has to be fixed. Thanks a lot!
FME: There's an autowidth frame in the footer which causes the problems.
