Description alistair7 2005-06-16 09:55:01 UTC
An mpeg file is inserted into a slide. Press play slide show.
Sound track plays back perfectly.
Picture plays back for 1 second and disappears.

Tried this on different makes of PC under win2000 (ver 1.1 and beta 1.9.95)
with the same result. (Also tried beta 2 on an XP PC which just crashed)
Comment 1 wolframgarten 2005-06-16 10:00:40 UTC
Can you attach the mpeg file? Thanks in advance. Not reproducible here. How do
you insert the mpeg file?
Comment 2 wolframgarten 2005-06-16 11:24:51 UTC
Priority changed.
Comment 3 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-06-16 11:52:29 UTC
I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m104) English version WIN XP: [680m104(Build8913)]: WFM
Comment 4 alistair7 2005-06-20 15:22:25 UTC
Sending Rollercoastertycoon3.mpg video file.
Comment 5 alistair7 2005-06-20 15:39:48 UTC
Cannot attach mpg file because it is 17 meg. (the attachment page said that it
should be under 1 meg) I'm sorry I said it was an MPEG file. It is in fact an
MPG file. I don't know it that makes a difference.

I run IMPRESS
choose Empty presentation
Choose a format is SCREEN
Presentation type is STANDARD
CREATE

I insert the video by clicking the following:
INSERT
OBJECT
VIDEO
select rollercoaster.mpg
OK

I kind of default icon appears in the slide as the file is loading.

As I have now installed version 1.9.109 Norwegian, the following problem occurs:

After the mpg file has been loading for around 20 seconds, IMPRESS just
terminates.

I can't even try to play it now.

Comment 6 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-06-20 17:32:07 UTC
I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m104) English version WIN XP: [680m104(Build8913)] and
can reproduce the problem with albi2.mpg downloaded from a.m. URL

Seems to be a matter or size, I checked some smaller ones (1 ... 2,5 MB) without
any problem, but that big mpg crashed OOo some seconds after I inserted it into
an empty Impress page (mouse sand glass still visible) before I was able to
start the presentation.
Comment 7 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-06-21 19:35:20 UTC
I checked with 1.1.4 (German) WIN XP: [645m52 (Build 8824)] and big 32MB MPG
from <http://www.lfm.mw.tum.de/lfm_sources/albatros.html> - worked fine.
Comment 8 alistair7 2005-06-24 13:38:03 UTC
I have just tried to attach and send a small mpg file which causes Impress to
shutdown. It is only 400 kb in size. I was asked to select what file type it
was. Neither mpg or mpeg was in the list, so I tried both types under "Other".
In both cases I received the response that:
"You must select a legal mime type. 'mpeg' is not a leagal mime type."

I feel like I am hitting my head against a wall. The last time I wanted to
send a file it was too big, had to be under 1 meg. This is under 1 meg, but I
still can't send it.

I know this file is ok. I have played it under Windows media player.

How can I send it to you???
Comment 9 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-07-04 09:19:51 UTC
Hi alistair7,

I repeat my hints from my PM to you, becaus I do not see any eraction:

The correct mime type you have to insert should be "video/mpeg" or
"video/mpg".

I never tried, so that this might not work. If you still have problems
to upload your testfile, may I as you to compress the video to a
ZIP-file and to upload it as ZIP?

Thanks for your contribution

Created attachment 27789 [details]
mpg video file with no sound.
Comment 11 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-07-08 14:15:31 UTC
I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m113) German version WIN XP: [680m113(Build8930)] and
can confirm problems with TEST.MPG:

OOo will crash if I insert video by Insert - Video / Sound directly after insert.

OOo does not crash if I insert the video by mouse drag and drop from
WIN-EXPLORER, afterwards I can play the video without problem

OOo will not play correctly the video if I inserted it by Mediaplayer: I can
insert the video without problems, but after <F9> to start the video it does not
play. Sometimes i See the complete video in 0,1s, sometimes it does not play at
all, and sometimes (very seldom) the video runs normal.

All those results reproducible tested several times with alwasys opened new
presentation.
Comment 12 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-07-08 15:36:39 UTC
Seze seems to be not relevant
Comment 13 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-07-09 09:05:39 UTC
I checked "albi2.mpg" (from url)with 2.0 (1.9.m113) German version WIN XP:
[680m113(Build8930)] and had to learn that results differed a little from my
test with [680m104(Build8913)] (see Additional comments from rainerbielefeld Fri
Jul 8 06:15:31 -0700 2005)

680m113 plays that mpg without any problems when I insert it by drag and drop
from WIN-Explorer, also when insert it from Media player and also if insert it
by "Menu:Insert". last possibility cuases enourmous hard disk activity, but OOo
does not crash (in m104: placeholder shown for a short moment, then crash).
Comment 14 wolframgarten 2005-07-18 12:22:55 UTC
I checked test.mpg and albi2.mpg on an internal m118 and had no problems.
Comment 15 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-07-18 12:55:52 UTC
I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m118) English version WIN XP: [680m118(Build8936)] and
can confirm WFM for test.mpg and albi2.mpg.

Comment 18 alistair7 2005-08-15 13:36:37 UTC
I'm not sure I understand what is happening with this issue. Is it still being
worked on? Because I am still having serious problems with Win2000 and the
latest version 1.9.123 in Bokmål Norwegian.

Insert - Object - Video - Test.mpg

This shutsdown the program immediately.

Insert - Object - video - Rollercoaster.mpg (17 meg which you do not have)

This is inserted after 7 seconds and begins to play immediately.
When I then stop it playing and try to start the actual slide presentation, it
does not play at all, and basically leads to a program crash.

I noticed that all your tests were only done with XP.

We are using Win2000 on all our machines at 2 schools. So it needs to function
on 2000.

Thanks for your efforts.

checked with 2.0 (1.9.m122) German version WIN XP: [680m122(Build8941)], still WFM.
Comment 20 alistair7 2005-08-15 15:25:54 UTC
What does "WFM" mean?
Comment 21 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-08-15 15:53:54 UTC
@ alistair7:
WFM means Works For Me
Comment 22 alistair7 2005-08-15 16:07:18 UTC
But what about Win2000 ? Will anyone check this under 2000?

There are still many schools using win2000.
Comment 23 wolframgarten 2006-02-07 10:34:20 UTC
Test.mpg ok under m154 under Wiindows XP. Testing this on win2000 now... works
ok, I have inseted the files via Insert/movei and sound.
I assume that this might be problem of your systems configuration. If we cannot
reproduce this we cannot do anything about it.
