Description clanehin 2005-09-13 22:00:10 UTC
The formula editor does not seem to support the long division symbol, also known
as the division bracket. This is the symbol you would have used in elementary
school to perform long division (or in high school to perform polynomial long
division). It is similar in appearance to the square root bracket, but has a
curved rather than a spiked tail.

please provide a more detailed description/an example of what a long division
symbol is.

At least here in germany, I never encountered something similar to a square-root
symbol to do divisions.

Sure. It possibly is only used in an educational setting. I suppose there is
no need for an international standard for this notation.

If the long division bracket is supported, there should also be a way to make
sure that the repeated subtraction steps and the solution can be correctly
aligned in the appropriate columns.
