Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 58456
excessive memory use, extreme slow speed
Last modified: 2006-01-02 16:09:40 UTC
Oo uses approx 700 - 800 Megs of ram to open a 1 meg .sxc file, it takes several minutes and uses 100% kernel. Make a spreadsheet with say 6 columns with 5 digit numbers, Fill say 24,000 cells per column, try to autoformat a chart. Have fun. This is an old problem. Recovery of the crashed files takes forever,
Created attachment 31811 [details] A problematic file [csv]
Autoformatting a chart took 6 minutes with an Athlon @ 2.2GHz 1 Gig ram. Suicide seems less painful than using this program.
You aren't trying chart 24,000 rows of data simultaneously, are you? Equally spaced on a rather wide 10 inch figure, and this means more than 2000dpi -- my monitor can only do around 72dpi. You could try downsampling your data before plotting it. But yes, Chart could be faster. There's an existing issue for that, so I'll close this one as a duplicate. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 16280 ***
>>You aren't trying chart 24,000 rows of data simultaneously, are you?<< Ohh yes I am. Works fine with that "other" program. Instant response up to 32,000 rows. The .pdf's generated from these big charts renders pretty slow and have forced people I sent them to to upgrade their old machines :) I understand that "Chart" [an awful microsoftish naming style] is a pretty small program and I may be asking a lot to replace it.
This _IS_ definitely a duplicated of issue 16280. Reporter, please explain why do you think it is not. There's nothing different from issue 16280. We all waiting this enhancement for years too. But, unfortunately this is target to 3.0 and another issue will not help the problem. Feel free to vote for issue 16280. This _could_ help. :) Thank you.
