Description ocke.janssen 2006-03-24 06:43:57 UTC
- Starts office
- Include a new module with package manager
- Instantiate the new service

-> error message from uno.exe

After a restart the service can be instantiated.

pkgchk is deprecated. Please try unopkg, it should work generally. I have
tested and used this feature often. But it maybe won't work if your package or
parts of your package linked to VCL or some other private library (not published
UNO/SDK library) from the program directory. Can you give me a more details please.
Comment 2 Daniel Boelzle [:dbo] 2006-04-21 16:16:45 UTC
Ocke, obviously you component (indirectly) relies on the host process being
soffice.exe.
I doubt that you are facing link dependency problems to office (non-SDK)
libraries, because then the component won't be registrable at all. uno.exe is in
program directory and all (office) libraries are found (besides the executable).
Maybe an uninitialized VCL or similar is the problem...
Comment 3 ocke.janssen 2006-04-24 06:21:15 UTC
My component implements a model-controller-view structure which depends on vcl.
Comment 4 jsc 2006-04-28 08:06:25 UTC
We need a workaround for this specific problem and it needs further investigation

Since the problem is that the extensions links against VCL I do not see this as
problem of the extension manager. We will probably add a flag in the
description.xml of an extension which indicates that a restart is necessary to
make the extension work.

-Wait for further input to make decision.

A new element in the description.xml could indicate that the extension is not be
suitable for lifedeployment. Another flag could indicate that life-deployment is
not allowed, then the new services from the extension are only available after
restarting.

It is also imaginable to directly register and run the new service in the office
process and not using uno.exe in a separate process.

With regard to the effort we should be aware the action we may take here is a
hack for services which are not 100 % UNO conform!

The report designer still does not work with life deployment althought
dependencies to VCL etc. have been removed. Investigate fro 2.3.

see CWS oj14

Comment 17 Frank Schönheit 2007-05-15 09:32:43 UTC
The Report Designer iTeam decided that this issue is a show stopper for the
release of the report designer. Targeting to 2.3, thus.
Comment 18 ocke.janssen 2007-06-04 10:12:56 UTC
Restart of the office is not more needed any more. The report designer can be
executed right after installation of the extension.

Please verify this one. Thanks.
