Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 64367
Saves opened file with wrong extension, even when the extension is removed from the name
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:13:10 UTC
Trying to save an opened .csv file and saving it as .xls sometimes causes some problems. Follw these steps - Open .csv file (e.g. via File->Open) - Click OK in the Text Import window - Click File->Save As - Go to the directory of the .csv file you just imported. - Click once on the .csv file (this causes the name to appear in the "File name" box) - Click once on the "File name" box. - Press "End" button. (to deselect the filename) - Press backspace 4 times (to delete '.csv') - Important step: Click on a white part 'the file/directory listing area', thereby moving the focus from the "File name" select box. Make sure you don't click on a file because that would cause the content of the "File name" box to change. If, after deleting the 4 chars, you press "Tab", or click on e.g. the popup window border instead, this problem does not arise. - Click on "Save as type" (which now holds "Test CSV (.csv)") - Select "Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP (.xls) - Press "Save" Button You now have the plain filename without extension in the "File name" field and "Microsoft Excel ..." selected in the "Save as type" field but when you press "Save", OOo asks whether it should overwrite <filename>.csv. This might seem like a little bug or anoyance but it can create some confusion with novice users. Please contact me if anything is unclear maarten [at] webfauna [dot] nl

tra->fst: Its not my business anymore unfortunately as I'm moving to the SunRay team ;) I might ask Hennes if he takes over this.
Hi Hennes, please have a look at this one and re-assign to the correct developer if needed. Frank
