Description docb 2006-04-25 19:20:33 UTC
Hi,
printing a document from a Linux-box is some kind of a nightmare:
- OO displays by default the available printers from Cups. So far OK
- Creating an additional printer allows the option Fax or PDF - why not a
'normal' printer?
- before OO 2.0, it was possible to reassign the 'generic printer' to kprinter
--stdin. By this you have all available printer plus fax, PPDF and so on
available. This option does not exist anymore (Except this undocumented
SAL_DISABLE_CUPS)
So, PLEASE, make an easily useable option to either setup a new printer for
kprinter or to select the kprinter-dialog as default printer setting.

Thanks!

a feature to be considered

This is an important issue for us, too. Our Windows users are used to being able
to do n-up printing in the print dialog. When they are migrated to Linux
suddenly the most important application for them (the word processor) doesn't
allow n-up printing anymore, because the printer dialog doesn't offer it. The
problem is made worse by the fact that even the simple text editor kedit has
this option (by virtue of the standard KDE print dialog). It is very hard to
communicate to an end user why a simple text editor has a more powerful print
dialog than the word processor.

great that pl now considers this something "to be considered" after closing a
cuple of previous issues requesting the ability to add custom printers despite
running cups...

PS: Cou can add kprint of other printer by creating a "fax" or "PDF-Konverter" -
you don't have to disable cups using the environment variable.
PPS: You can do n-up printing using File|Page/Print preview (see the OnlineHelp
for more details)
