Description raindrops 2006-06-17 05:23:56 UTC
I have a 320+ page odt file that contains long tables spanning several pages.
OOo crashes very frequently (once in 2-3 minutes) while working on this document.
The crashes do not seem to be triggered by any specific task.

I am not clear about the exact version I am using: The "Help>About" menu shows
version 2.0.3 but the website says m169 (the installer executable that I
downloaded is named OOo_2.0.169_Win32Intel_install).

1. Please send the document to mru@openoffice.org (I guess it's confidential)
and post at least a little of your action on the document (e.g modifying table
structure or inserting text...)
2. Please try out with the newer OO 2.0.3 680m5 build (should be somewhere on
the ftp server) or take the m6 which should be released by the end of this week.
(some fixes in the mentioned area have been introduced there).
Comment 2 raindrops 2006-06-19 16:02:24 UTC
I have already submitted online reports (recovery feedback or whatever it is
called) for several crashes; and added as many details as I could.

I will send the file (confidential- Do not post) to mru.

Thanks.

One of the confirmed mechanism is rapid movement of mousewheel. If you use
mousewheel rapidly, Writer crashes.

Although this is not the only reason for crash. Sometimes it crashes "just like
that".

One pattern: If I start editing the file immediately after opening it, it is
more likely to crash. If I open it and leave it aside for 1-2 hours (marination
;)) it will not crash for a longer time.

But sooner or later crash it will...

I see. I think (or better: I am sure) that this problem will be fixed in OO 2.0.3.
From your issue 60340 I have filed two seperate internal tasks (because the are
better to handle for our development when documents are confidential); one
dealing about a crash regarding merging table cells and another handling the
crash when Writer is doing the "formatting" after opening the document (which is
what you described above). So please try out OO2.0.3 when it is released by the
end of this week.

There is a developer build of OO 2.0.3; there the problem should already fixed in.
Comment 6 raindrops 2006-07-01 09:35:50 UTC
Indeed, m173 crashed only once, when I had two almost identical (large)
documents opened at once. That too, Only one of them crashed.

But there is a new problematic behavior I see now: After every few minutes, the
document saves automatically. This takes a few seconds, and all open documents
of OOo become unresponsive.

Should I raise another bug for this?

Writer m173 crashed 5 times today. That is better compared to earlier version
which crashed every 2-3 minutes.

But not stable enough.

well, seems mru confirmed the issue.

setting to NEW as still crashing, as raindrops said.

Please do NOT reopen already fixed issues when the behavour is "just" similar.
Please file a new issue for this and give some information about what you are
doing to get the crash. Thanks for your patience!

Closed. When filing a new issue, please reference to the document from issue
60340; you needn't send it again for the case you did not modify your copy to
get the crash.

Well, I have now moved on to 2.0.3 and this has no crashed so far (in last one
day). So I guess I will raise a new bug if/when 2.0.3 crashes.
