Within Writer:
  1. Protecting against widows (last line of a paragraph goes to next page) or
orphans (first line of a paragraph goes on prior page) do not appear to be the
default within Writer.
  2. While it may be possible to protect against them, I can't find how this is
done.
  3. Within help, the two terms (widows and orphans) are not included.

If you use "orphan" or "widow" as search term in 'find' tab in online help, you
will get three relevant results.

If you want it to be enabled by default, you can set it in your personal default
template.

I change the summary to better reflect the request.
