Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 78818
Japanese input: font reverts to Tahoma
Last modified: 2007-07-17 11:09:29 UTC
To reproduce: Launch en-US build of OOo Select Hiragana input (International - Input Menu - Kotoeri - Hiragana) Open a new Writer document Select a japanese font Enter some romaji text Font reverts to Tahoma - see screenshots attached. To workaround this enter a few blank lines, select the range and choose the required japanese font. Now the previous entered text displays correctly and new text can be entered as required. m114 with aquavcl01 salframe.cxx 1.46.112.103

sparcmoz: Do you setup "Basic Fonts (Asian)" preference of Writer to use Hiragino fonts? With the setting, I don't see the font reversion with Japanese input. But YMMV. Anyway, on issue #79676 I've submitted a patch to enable fallback fonts if the glyph is not supported with a selected font. With the patch, I think Japanese text should be displayed correctly even the selected font is Tahoma.
ekato: thank you for the explanation. This now works correctly for me. There is no Basic Fonts (Asian) in a new installation of OOo en-US. The steps to get this option are: (1) Tools - Options - Language Settings - Languages - Enhanced Languages Support - check "Enabled for Asian Languages" (2) Now the Default Languages for Documents - Asian will become enabled. Select Asian - Japanese. (3) Close the Language Settings dialog and re-open Tools-Options- OOo Writer. Now a new menu item will appear: "Basic Fonts (Asian)". All the fonts are Tahoma 12 except Heading is MS Mincho 14. Change the Default font and all fonts change except Heading. Therefore I will set this issue to resolved - Invalid. I will add another comment after testing the patch at issue 79676.
ekato: tested with the 2nd patch from issue 79676. As expected - it displays correctly without any change to the preferences (default installation of en-US).
