Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 79634
Aqua: Unrecognised fonts are inconsistent in imported .doc
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:43:11 UTC
Document imported uses Myriad Roman (Postscript Type 1 Font) which is available on the computer but doesn't appear in OO Writer's Font List. Alternate fonts are displayed but replacement font selection is haphazard and varies if different styles are applied. See screen grabs for original .doc and same imported in OO Writer. Behaviour is identical in Calc and for different documents using the same font.

ericb->campbellm http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/46810/OO%20Writer%20Font%20Drop% 20Down.png ... shows clearly you are not using OpenOffice.org. I'll attach what should appear

ericb->campbellm Just wondering : you are using NeoOffice, itself using recent aqua OpenOffice.org code ?
NeoOffice was installed prior to installing the Open Office Aqua Port. I'll attach an image which shows you a little more of the screen.

I think this doesn't happen anymore in 3.0 beta.
Alas - the problem still exists in Beta 3.0 - identically as reported originally. Beta 3.0 looking slick and performing well otherwise. Congrats!
Just to help narrow things down: the original doc renders fine on XP with OOo 3.0 dev (uses installed Myriad Pro for Myriad). I notice on the FontBook screenshot that Italic and Bold Italic (not condensed) are missing. Related?
rbircher -> torwart please have a look on this issue - thanks a load Set torwart and myself to CC
Mac OS X 10.5.4 Intel Mac. All installed fonts appear in the font drop down list. Since I don't have the mentioned Myriad Roman nor any other Postscrip Type 1 Font it will be hard to verify this issue. A test with a free PS Font from http://uatype.faithweb.com/ shows that the Font appears in the OOo Font list after a restart of OpenOffice.org and can be used like any other font. campbellm: Please download a newer version of OOo Aqua like Beta 2 or DEV300_m24 and see if the font still doesn't appear in the font list. rbircher, towart: May we close this as worksforme?
Hi, I'm running 3.0 Beta at the moment. Same issue with added quirks. Strange thing is now if I click within the text that's been rendered with the wrong font on the screen, and do any sort of editing (for instance, press space and then backspace), it re-renders the whole paragraph correctly. If I save the document as new, close it and reopen it, I'm back to the faulty rendering on screen. Now - if I print the document, it also fixes the on-screen rendering of the font to the correct font prior to printing - but - it prints with the wrong font. It's definitely a bug - when the font is seemingly unknown the screen rendering and print rendering use different fonts - and the screen rendering seems to vary randomly depending on various editing/printing/file operations. It may be confined to the specific font I'm using. I'll try to replicate the problem with a different font to see just for interest sake. BTW - we worked around the problem by setting up a font substitution on every (!) machine which is always applied - in order to make dealing with a substantial number of legacy documents less painful. It's a kludgy work-around but it works. (The behaviour that I indicate above is with the font substitution turned off).
OK - now using 3B2. (07072008) Same problem - different quirks. Now when I go to print, it re-renders the screen with all the fonts in their (consistently) incorrect versions and then offers the print dialogue. (and still prints the incorrect versions). When the print dialogue closes, the fonts are re-rendered back to the correct versions on screen. Myriad Roman still doesn't appear in the drop down list. It just lists the typeface name in the drop down - in this case Myriad. This seems to be the same for all variations on fonts when using OpenType or TrueType typefaces as well. For instance, Viva Std Light (OpenType) is not available - only Viva Std. Futura Md BT Medium (TTF) is also not available, but Future Md BT is. Even though these fonts are actually available on the system. Pages, Word and NeoOffice either substitute the typeface name (Pages) or use the actual font (Word & NeoOffice). OpenOffice just seems to randomly choose a completely different typeface. Anyhow - as I mentioned earlier - setting up a font substitution is an adequate workaround to the bug.
maveric-->campbellm OOo is currently not able to render OpenType fonts, see issue http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=16032 for more details. There is also a possible relation with issue #88192 which describes problems incorrect assignments of OpenType fonts under Aqua. maveric-->hdu Could you please take a look if this issue is related with issue #88192 or a seperate issue
