Description mdekkers 2002-10-01 20:43:46 UTC
a feature to hide the whitespace (incl. head/foot) and the background space
between pages would be helpful
Comment 1 kschmir 2003-01-31 16:42:04 UTC
... since the amount of visible context doesn't change at page breaks.
This should include headers and footers which, once defined, need not
be seen any more.
Comment 2 stefan.baltzer 2003-02-14 18:07:51 UTC
That's already built in:
[via menu:] View - Online Layout

Hi Stefan,

Sorry, but I don't agree with your assesment. The feature I am
requesting is not the same as online layout. What I am looking for is
*not* the removal of a page-based layout, what I am looking for is
keeping the page layout, but removing the whitespace between the
pages, like empty page space after a pagebreak, headers/footer etc.
This is simply a very comfortable way of working for the majority of
our users, since it really decreases the amount of scrolling required
when editing larger documents, while keeping the basic layout. Using
online layout is *not* the same, since stuff that is right-aligned
with the page will start shifting according to screenwidth etc.

Anything happening on this? I really would be very useful. online layout is not
the same I like having the page margin. And I will eventually need to print my
documents and so I need to make sure they look right when I write them.

@qa
Would you consider cross-linking this issue with Issue 4914 ("Normal View"),
with "8006 depends on 4914" and "4914 blocks 8006"? 8006 probably can't be
implemented without the major work being done for 4914, but after that is done,
doing 8006 should be fairly trivial. The cross-link is to ensure that this very
old issue, with a number of votes for it, doesn't get lost in the shuffle. /tj

I can understand that can be difficulties to implement Normal View but I really
don't se any clue here... To make it difficult you can go to the Page Style
menu and create page style without margins and height shortened by the size of
margin... All done. Why we can't have just one single button to make it easy?
Comment 16 pjason 2009-04-02 00:05:34 UTC
A button that just simulates going to Page Style and setting the Top and Bottom
Margins to 0 is not sufficient (as this would effect printing). It should just
be a view option to hide the unused space between the pages.
