mail merge "save as single file" inserts blank pages in file

I produced two different mail merge forms, one a letter and the other an envelope. I used the same data from a spread sheet with over 100 names and addresses. All files were OOo file formats. After the merge, I saved the merged document as a single, multi-page file. However, the paragraph properties of the first paragraph of every page had a check mark in the block to insert a blank page in front of it. So my 100 page merge contained 199 pages and the print preview showed that every other page was a blank page. I found no easy way to remove the paragraph formating except to edit the first paragraph of each page individually.
