Description haigraphai 2007-09-20 04:59:04 UTC
Italics in Writer will turn on with either Ctrl-I or by clicking the Italics
button but will not turn off using either method once something has been typed.
It can be turned off only by highlighting subsequent text and clicking the
Italics icon or Ctrl-I. This was not happening with OOo 2.2.1. This does not
affect Bold or Underline.

I cannot see the problem. Could you attach a document where the problem occurs?
Is it perhaps a certain language?
Comment 2 pesala 2007-09-21 03:27:04 UTC
I can confirm the problem on Oo 2.3 with both italics and bold on Windows XP Home
SP2. It is not document related. It happens on a blank new document.

Quote from the Oo Writer forums:

Hmmm, a possibly-related problem: sometimes OOO 2.3 won't let you even start using
bold/italics/underline if that attribute was used at the beginning of the line. For me, this
reproduces the problem every time:

(1) Start OOO Writer.
(2) Press Control-B (or click the Bold icon) and type "foo", then press Control-B again.
(3) Type " bar " (a space, then 'bar', then another space)
(4) Press Control-B (or click the Bold icon) and type 'baz'.

Step (4) will NOT turn on bold mode, as it should, and the 'baz' will not appear in bold.
Oddly, italics and underline work just fine.

Similarly, if you start the line with underline instead of bold, then 'baz' won't appear in
underline (but bold or italics work fine.)

I confirm the problem. Also, if you start a line off in italics then leave
italic mode, you get the corresponding problem.

Ah, you have to start the paragraph with such an attribute - that is the
essential information ;-)

MRU->FME: looks like a problem with the "automatic styles". Start a paragraph
with e.g. "bold" attribute, type some characters, turn off "bold", type some
chars -> now it is not possible anymore to turn on "bold" again.

SBA: Set OS and Platform to "All", set keyword "regression" (Was OK in OOo 2.2.1).

Looks like this was introduced with the code changes made for i75750.
Investigating...

In the example, the workaround is to click Format->Default Formatting after
typing bar and before step #4.
