Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 82067
Exporting to MS Word2007 should turn Formulas into native Word2007 (editable) format
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:19:36 UTC
Now OO 2.3.0 saves files with embedded MathML formulas into MS Word 2007 just as embedded OpenOffice Math objects - but since MS Word 2007 have native support for editable formulas in it we should (: or even must :) save formulas in native MS Word 2007 format (look like it called Office MathML -OMML) If to be truly - now MS Office even can`t open docx file saved from OOWriter 2.3.0 which contain (for example) only one small formula ("sqrt 4") - it report about "file is corrupt". When i look inside this file i notice that math object stored as OOMath object instead of native OMML. So i will not report error about "saving with embedded math not work" because i think this module must be not just fixed but rewrited. With best wishes, Slav p.s. It is my first bug report to OpenOffice.org :)
Created attachment 48589 [details] file with sqrt 4 formula saved as docx (MS Word 2007 format)
@AMA: Please have a look.

What OpenOffice.org version do you use? "Normal" OOo2.3.0 has no "save as" or "export to" docx-format.
i use russian build of OpenOffice 2.3.0 - look like it contain novell`s plugin (OO port for http://odf-converter.sourceforge.net/) here is written - "Novell's contribution to the ODF Converter project is porting and integration with OpenOffice.org" in this case where i can place bugs? what if i install latest developer build of OO?
where did you get that build?
From link at openoffice.org, maybe OO 2.3 while install inherit plugins from previous version - novell`s plugin probably was just inherited from previous OO. I remember that i evaluate it some time ago but denied it because poor quality. By the way since Novell without warning drop developing XForms plugin for IE i not trust to Novell at all. Is Microsoft-sponsored odf-converter code can be used for including in OO code?
Fridrich, please have a look.
If you replace the Novell edition of OOo with an upstream version, whenever you tell OOo to save as OOXML, it will save a simple ODF because there are some hooks missing in the version of OOo that allowed to use a command-line tool. The solution is either to use the Novell edition of OOo that can be found here: http://tmp.go-oo.org/download/ or simply uninstall the plugin extension so that it does not misslead you believing that you are saving in docx file-format. The upstream version of OpenOffice.org is not yet able to save as docx although we are jointly (Novell/Sun) working on this possibility and will have it ready sometimes in the 3.x release cycle.
BTW, in case you really really need to convert those documents, the ooo-build based version is releasing a preview version of our joint filters in 2.3. For being able to export, you still will have to use this ooo-build based version with the updated odf-converter plugin http://go-oo.org/tstnvl/odi-2.1.0/odfconverter-1.0.5-2.oxt
(Please let's try to use consistent terminology here, "extension" and not "plugin". Sure, they mean about the same I guess, but in OOo it's "extension".) Unfortunately there is no way (as far as I know) for the odfconverter extension (as installed from the .oxt file) to tell the hosting OpenOffice.org that it requires features so far only present in the ooo-build builds (including Novell Edition), i.e. the pre- and postprocessing hooks. The odfconverter extension is just compiled and packaged by Novell, with the actual code we have very little to do.
That's really situation that Microsoft Office customers do not have any problem with OppenOffice files, but OpenOffice customers can't open Microsoft Office 2007 files. The simplest way to not have any problems is to pay and install MS Office and forget about OpenOffice...
