Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 84242
WW8: hbar in MathType Metafile not displayed correctly
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:44:35 UTC
The attached Microsoft Word document (badhbar.doc) illustrates the problem in two equations. In the first (a MathType 5.0 object), hbar is rendered as h. This is bad, since the expression is now inaccurate -- off by a factor of 2pi. (The first equation also illustrates that Issue 3780, which has been marked Closed, has not been fixed yet.) The second object, a Microsoft Equation Editor object, shows the hbar character as a placeholder box until the object is double-clicked, at which point it correctly displays as hbar. I am also attaching two PDF exports: one from Microsoft Word illustrating the intended rendering, and one from OpenOffice.org illustrating the bugs. Running on the OpenOffice.org package that comes with Debian Etch. In Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> Microsoft Office, I have enabled MathType conversion for loading and saving. Possibly related Issues: 1569, 3780, 4836, 11756

Bug reproduced in Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon's OpenOffice.org 2.3.0.
MRU->SJ: see attached document, the MathType metafile does not display the hbar symbol. It is only displayed as simple h (without the horizontal bar). Also the arrows are displayed much too high above the characters. I could only see this on Linux, on Windows this looks like in MS Word.
Although there are some improvements in OOo 3 (arrors are on the places, second h has a bar), regression is obvious: some symbols inside formula are displayed as "?", they go behind normal symbols and overlap them, making formula unreadable
