Description toiler 2008-05-15 06:00:37 UTC
(System: Mac OS X, 10.4.11, 1.5 GHz, 1 GB)

The tracking (or uniform character spacing) in all fonts, at all sizes, using
default character settings, is way too narrow. This applies both to new
documents and to files opened by Writer. Includes .doc, .odt, .rtf. Have not
tested in Windows.

In order to read a document opened in Mac OO Writer, one would have to first
modify the default character settings, entering
Format>Character>Position>Spacing, and increasing the spacing.

Hm, in our test environment this looks good.
When you open a new document, is the spacing in Format.Character.Position set to
"Default 0,0 pt"?
Which reslution do you run? Any Multi-screen settings?
Comment 3 michael.ruess 2008-05-16 07:49:15 UTC
Adding "needmoreinfo" keyword.
Comment 4 michael.ruess 2008-05-20 13:51:23 UTC
Maybe it is a similar problem like in issue 89650.
Do you have a special screen resolution?
Comment 5 toiler 2008-05-21 05:41:19 UTC
Yes, when I open a new document, the character spacing in
Format.Character.Position is set to
"Default 0,0 pt".

The resolution of my digital (DVI) display is 1600 X 1200, using the MacMini's
standard display card and drivers. Changing resolutions has no effect on the
problem. Also, my monitor can be rotated to a vertical position (1200 x 1600)
but doing so likewise has no effect on the problem.

re: Issue 89650 and multiple display settings:

I do NOT have multiple monitor support enabled on my machine nor any type of
"virtual display area", so it's not immediately obvious how Issue 89650 could be
related to my problem.

MRU->HDU: here is the other issue regarding weird font display on MAC. Could you
please check with a resolution of 1600x1200? Thanks a lot!
Comment 7 toiler 2008-05-22 05:59:37 UTC
Similar to Issue 89650, I just noticed that I am seeing a skewed document
scaling in addition to my skewed character tracking. Look closely at the ruler
bars shown in the following attachment, a screenshot of an 8 1/2 x 11 document.
Notice that the scale of the X axis doesn't match the scale of the Y. The
document is showing up long and narrow (whereas the document in Issue 89650
shows up short and wide).

For what it's worth, I also noticed that the sample text in the
Format.Character.Position dialog displays correctly while the actual text in the
document window remains skewed.

toiler: What build are you using?

Using DEV300_m21 Intel (Leopard), font display is correct. Please see the screenshot marked
DEV300_m21 above.

Please check this issue in the latest build (DEV300_m21), and tell us what happens.

We have marked improvements in early display problems in the later builds, so it's very likely that this
has been fixed. I'm inclined to mark this WORKSFORME, or simply FIXED, but I'll wait on user feedback.

Reassigning back to QA: I cannot reproduce it with a recent build like DEV300_m28.
Comment 12 michael.ruess 2008-09-05 15:31:42 UTC
Also not reproducible for me (OOO300m4 build).
Comment 13 michael.ruess 2008-09-05 15:38:15 UTC
