Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 95806
Shift-Jis isn't recogniced
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
When I try to open a TXT file coded on Shift-Jis (Japanese), Openoffice shows it like an ANSI file. A correct behaviour would be to autodetect the codification and showing it correctly.
Created attachment 57687 [details] Example of a file
It shows Mojibake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mojibake

naoyuki: ishimura-san, do you think this is a bug? Just I Cc:'ed and never verified. Thanks for your time!
Current behavior is the encoding of txt file is assumed platform default one. So Shift-JIS txt file must be opened without problem in PCK/ShiftJIS locale of Solaris/Linux or Japanese Windows environment. If it's not, then it is a bug I verified attached ShiftJIS file can be opened with StarSuite9 in PCK locale on Solairs and Japanese Windows 2000/XP. We need to know more detailed info regarding platform and using OOo language environment.
I was using didn't try on a japanese windows xp, but in the spanish version (both O.S and OOo) it is like I said before.
Thanks aristerko for your environment info. Nakata-san, it is not a bug but ENHANCEMENT request as current Type is suggested. But I guess this enhancement may not be possible to implement as all of byte value in ShiftJIS data are also valid as iso8859-1 data. So I believe the current implementation (user select 'Encoded Text' at FileOpen dialog when open txt file which encoding is not identical with platform default) is reasonable.
naoyuki: aristerko and ishimura-san, can I close this issue as WONTFIX? BTW: the contents of the readme.txt...!?!?
