Description wadester 2009-03-03 16:20:37 UTC
OpenOffice writer crashes when I try to create some simple
diagrams with circles, squares and connectors. The document
is 5 pages long with headers and footers. I am trying to
create a simple diagram:

  Insert Object -> OLE Object -> OpenOffice.org 3.0 Drawing

resize to fit most of a page
  turn on snap to grid
insert a rectangle and resize, then copy several times
  move rectangles
  try to connect using connectors

-- OO crashes somewhere in this workflow....

I am running OO 3.0.1, build 9379, i386 Linux, installed via RPMS:
openoffice.org3-3.0.1-9379. The system is running CentOS 5.2
with updates current as of a month ago: kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5PAE.
Glib is 2.5.24.el5_2.2.

The crash is repeatable. I have had the drawing component crash
my OO 3.0.1 several times on this and other documents. The
documents are corporate sensitive so I can not copy it and
provide it.

I checked with "Ooo 3.0.1 (DE) Multilingual version GERMAN UI WIN XP: [OOO300m15
(Build 9379)]" and can NOT confirm the reported effect. LINUX specific?

Please send me the file as private e-mail mentioning the issue ID.
This will be treated confidentially.

You can also try to reproduce the crash with a recreated neutral document and
attach this document to the issue.

We need a sample document to recreate the crash.

I also cannot reproduce the problem using OOo on Windows and Linux.
Do you work with the OOo build provided by you Linux distributor or the native
builds from OOo website?
Please try using the native builds.
Comment 4 wadester 2009-03-05 15:02:32 UTC
I would like to send the file but it contains a lot of corporate information
that can not leave my office. I have experienced this crash in several
documents over the last month and with both version 3.0.0 and 3.0.1. I had hoped
3.0.1 would fix it, but it did not hence my bug report.

I am trying to duplicate the problem on a sterile file on the same machine, but
no luck so far. If I can get it to fail, I'll upload the file.

I am using the Linux i386 build from openoffice.org which includes RPMS, and I
am loading these on my CentOS 5.2 system using the open office install program.
My earlier version of open office is still installed as well (2.3, these get
installed as openoffice3).

I created a test document with similar formatting and some simple drawings.
Yesterday, I could not get Writer to crash. Today, I had the test document open
plus 4-5 others. When I tried to move a block around one of the drawings,
Writer crashed. I have attached both the document prior to crash and the
document after recovery.
Comment 8 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-03-07 09:33:14 UTC
I tried 15 minutes, but I was not able to provoke a crash
Comment 9 michael.ruess 2009-03-10 17:00:11 UTC
I played around now for almost an hour with the attached document, but it never
got a crash. I also tested it with OOo 3.0.1 (and also 3.1 dev build) on i386
Linux (SUSE 10.3). I used the native builds from OOo website. Do you also use
the native builds?
Comment 10 michael.ruess 2009-03-26 22:40:17 UTC
Maybe it is a problem of the XServer? Moving a graphical object could be a
difficulty for some drivers...

Please send a crash report over the crash reporter.
Write the issue ID in the subject line.

Closing as not reproducible for now.
